A week after the surgery I began to jog very lightly. That first week I ran no more than 20 minutes, and everything felt better mechanically, but obviously very sore and stiff from the operation. Physical therapy began 10 days after, and I have seen significant increases in range of motion as well as gluteal/adductor/and overall core strength. For the first time in a long time my mechanics feel normal while I'm running. I liken the feeling I had previously to a drunk marionette jerkily moving to and fro.
Last week I ran 39 miles, with the runs later in the week getting closer to 7:00 pace. I'm still slightly sore, but otherwise feeling ok. This week will probably be around 50, next 60, and so on. As long as things continue going well I may begin doing very light workouts as early as mid-October, but I'm hardly concerned with putting the cart before the horse at the moment.
An interesting byproduct of the whole ordeal revolves around sleep. For the significant time period I was injured I failed to sleep well. I'd toss and turn, and never be in a relaxed deep state of sleep. Since the operation I've been resigned to sleeping primarily on my back to not irritate anything, and I've been waking up refreshed roughly at 6:30 a.m. every morning and getting up, without an alarm. This is noteworthy due to the fact that for a year and a half I was awake before 7:00 a.m. on a handful of occasions, and it was forced by an alarm and some abnormal responsibility for that day. I would typically get up around 8:30 to 9:00 still feeling tired.
